Job Description
Reporting to the Accounting Director, Security, the Senior Accountant assists the controllership function in our mission of timely and accurate reporting of financial results and ensuring internal controls over financial reporting are designed and operating effectively. This role will have a focus on cost accounting and general accounting duties across all Security & Connected Products businesses.
Position location: This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule based out of Deerfield, IL. Effective mid-2025, Fortune Brands will transition to a new world-class campus in Deerfield, bringing together associates from across our U.S. offices, brands, and functions. The campus will offer vibrant workspaces for collaboration, along with amenities for dining, onsite daycare, fitness and recreation.
RESPONSIBLIITIES:
Month End Close:
Record, classify, and summarize financial transactions and events in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
Create journal entries (JEs) that tie to detail supporting documentation
Prepare balance sheet reconciliations by tying general ledger balance to detailed support
Investigate and determine remediation for unreconciled differences
Cost Accounting:
Determine, record, and report on the monthly excess inventory and obsolescence reserves
Summarize the cost implications of standard cost rollups and oversee the rollup process
Collaborate with the Sourcing/Procurement function to provide purchase price variance and inflation reporting; partner with leadership to establish appropriate action plans
Monthly reconciliation of inventory financial balances to system perpetual balances, including investigation of and adjusting for differences
Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs and provide actionable insights to management
Emphasis on internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment
Perform assigned tasks, including special projects, analysis, and communication as directed by management
Support Leadership with ad hoc reporting as needed
Control owner of several key SOX controls as listed in the SOX risk and Controls Matrix
