Ohio Wesleyan University, a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and located just 20 miles north of Columbus, is seeking candidates for the position of Sports Information Director. This is a salaried, Full-Time position with benefits.

As a successful candidate for this position, you will lead the strategic communications efforts for the University’s athletic division, promoting and enhancing the visibility of all varsity sports programs. You will use creative storytelling, media relations, digital content, and game-day operations to highlight the achievements and spirit of our athletic teams. In this role, you will collaborate across departments to ensure a consistent and integrated message that supports the University’s mission and athletic objectives.

Job Summary:

The Sports Information Director (SID) leads the strategic communication efforts for the college’s athletic division. This role is responsible for promoting and enhancing the visibility of all varsity athletic programs through creative storytelling, media relations, digital content, and game-day operations. The Sports Information Director collaborates across departments to ensure a consistent and integrated message that supports the University’s mission and athletic objectives. This position reports to the Vice President of Marketing & Communications.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communications plan for the athletics department that aligns with the University’s communication philosophy.
  • Ensure alignment of athletics messaging consistent with the University’s brand identity and messaging strategy.
  • Serve as the primary media contact for all varsity sports and coordinate interview requests with coaches and student-athletes.
  • Maintain and update the University athletics website.
  • Produce high-quality live video and audio streams for home athletic events.

Factors Contributing Success:

  • Required - Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, sport management, or a related field.
  • Preferred - Master’s degree in communications, sport management, or a related field.
  • Preferred - Experience working in a college or university setting.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in a collegiate sports information or athletic communications setting.
  • Proficiency in NCAA statistical software (e.g. StatCrew, Presto, NCAA LiveStats).
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign and Photoshop), and Google Workspace.
  • Experience with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter(X), Instagram, YouTube, and emerging channels.
  • Familiarity with Canva, BoxOut Sports and website content management systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a collaborative team environment.
