Job Description:
Scope/Purpose of the Position
The purpose of this position is to lead and manage the companys food safety and quality systems to ensure they are effective and continuously improving. This role encompasses overseeing the quality assurance team, maintaining high standards of food safety and product quality, and developing the team through job training, empowerment, and engagement. The Quality Assurance Manager contributes to the company's commitment to delivering safe, high-quality products while ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Primary Duties:
- Provide hands-on leadership to the QA department, managing a team of supervisors and technicians across all shifts.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members to promote engagement, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Drive a company-wide commitment to First in Class food safety by partnering with department heads to educate employees and enforce policies.
- Oversee, maintain, and continuously improve food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance programs (HACCP, SQF, GMPs, etc.).
- Conduct internal audits, inspections, and risk assessments; ensure timely and effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
- Develop and implement monitoring systems to collect, analyze, and report KPI data for ongoing performance and process improvements.
- Lead and prepare the facility for all third-party audits and inspections (e.g., SQF, FDA, Kosher, Non-GMO).
Secondary Duties:
- Manage the consumer complaints program; conduct root cause analyses and implement effective corrective actions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (e.g., Production, R&D, Maintenance) to identify process improvements and ensure product integrity.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date quality and food safety documentation and records in compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesDirectly manage and develop a QA team consisting of 2 Quality Supervisors and 6 Quality Technicians
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in science, management, or related filed, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in food processing and quality assurance.
- At least 3 years of management experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of FDA regulations and food safety practices.
- Expertise in HACCP, PSQM, SQF, GMP, SOPs, SSOPs, Pest Control, Kosher, Organic, and Allergen Control programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- HACCP, PSQM, SQF certification or similar certifications.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and quality control systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or climb (including stairs/ladders).
- Ability to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Physical dexterity necessary to handle supplies, machine parts and tools.
- Vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Regular exposure to the production floor, which may involve loud machinery, fluctuating temperatures, and standing or walking for extended periods.
- Periodic work in an office setting for administrative tasks, meetings, and reporting.
