GENERAL PURPOSE

As an entry-level position for a relatively inexperienced college graduate, conducts basic financial analysis through the application of fundamental accounting/finance principles, concepts, theories and techniques; provides assistance on complex problems / projects. Typically, assignments provide exposure to fundamental financial concepts, issues and / or activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of departmental budgets
  • Builds internal network of contacts/sources to collect and/or validate data. Assists in communicating information as requested.
  • Conducts financial analysis through application of fundamental accounting / finance principles, concepts, theories and techniques on assignments that are of a specific nature, requiring a basic understanding and experience in the field.
  • Continuously increases knowledge of the organization and personal business acumen through ongoing learning activities.
  • Functions as financial analyst and business partner with assigned client group /segment of the organization.
  • Prepares fundamental analyses and research to generate data for inclusion in financial forecasts and projections.
  • Prepares journal transactions, balances accounts, and investigates reconciling items
  • Uses established procedures, works under direct supervision, and directs efforts towards clearly defined results.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance.
  • Prior experience as a college intern or in a non professional level accounting/finance function preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Basic, fundamental knowledge of accounting / finance principles, concepts, theories and techniques.
  • Analytical skills to identify and analyze problems and generate ideas and solutions.
  • Ability to accomplish desired objectives / outcomes.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation/communication software and tools currently being used in the Herman Miller office environment including spreadsheet programs.
