Job Description

Required Qualifications:
- NM State Nursing Licensing
- BLS Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
- CGRN
- ACLS Certification - within six (6) months of hire/transfer
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Endoscopy nurse is responsible for pre procedural arrangements with Nursing floors and the outpatients in regard to scheduled procedure time, transportation, and instructions
- Maintains continuity of patient care through communication with other healthcare team members involved in the care of the patient
- The Endoscopy nurse is responsible for receiving patients and admitting, periodic, and discharge vital signs per department policy
- The nurse will utilizes assessment skills to help plan an approach of individualized care to each patient and provide safe patient care during pre, intra, and post procedure
- The Endoscopy nurse is responsible for IV access prior to the procedure; all prerequisite medical intervention (ie fluid, antibiotic, blood products, medications etc.) will be administered according to nursing protocol policy and physician's orders
- The Endoscopy nurse is responsible for teaching pre-procedure and discharge instructions
- The nurse will communicate an attitude of concern to the patient and family through active listening, responding to the needs communicated and giving feedback
- The Endoscopy nurse is responsible for assisting in Endoscopy/Bronchoscopy set up of equipment, assisting with the procedure, and clean-up of equipment
- Specimen handling according to proper laboratory procedures ie pathology, histology, cytology, microbiology solutions and proper handling
- The Endoscopy nurse is responsible for proper and accurate documentation stated by department policy of care given and is responsible for patient records and procedure charges
- The Endoscopy nurse is responsible for adhering to department policy concerning infection control and maintains aseptic laboratory skills
- The Endoscopy nurse is responsible respecting culture diversity, employing interpreters when needed, note and accommodate hearing and visual impaired patients
- The nurse will included family and significant others in patient care, planning education, use age appropriate teaching when needed, advocate patient rights as needed, understand age-related physiological difference and can implement age-appropriate therapeutic in interventions, interact professional with co-workers and promote interdepartmental teamwork

Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions:
- Recognize that potential exposure to blood borne pathogens and/or hazardous materials, x-ray, noxious/irritating fumes, long hours, and unforeseen conditions that might generate stress may be encountered
- Must be able to see with corrective eyewear and hear clearly with assistance
- Must be able to walk, stand, squat, climb, kneel, and twist frequently
- Must be able to lift greater than 50 pounds and push 0-300 pounds frequently
- Recognize that physical demands such as extensive walking, standing, lifting, positioning, pushing, and or transferring of patients may be required
- Responsible for on-call duties as assigned by GI Lab Manager
