Job Summary
Columbus State is hiring for a Deputy Chief Financial Officer (DCFO). The DCFO strategically advances Columbus State's mission through financial strategies that support student success, workforce development and community impact. Working with the Chief Financial Officer, the DCFO helps lead the College's Business Services Division. The DCFO supports the development and execution of the budget of Columbus State, the largest community college in Ohio, and oversees several departments including Purchasing/Procurement, Resource Planning and Analysis, Payroll and the Bookstore.
Strategic & Organizational Leadership
Provides leadership and vision to ensure the college's financial operations support and advance the College's strategic goals. Works closely with the CFO and other college leadership to inform decision-making with financial data and modeling. Acts as a thought partner and participates in strategic planning and prioritization.
Supervises assigned area of responsibility and staff by recruiting, hiring, assigning, and delegating tasks, providing direction, resolving work problems, communicating job expectations, training employees, and developing professional growth opportunities.
Conducts annual employee evaluations, provides ongoing feedback and coaching, and effectively recommends pay increases, promotions, and other personnel actions. Approves leaves and authorizes overtime as appropriate. Administers disciplinary actions upon approval and in collaboration with Human Resources.
Delivers leadership of the Business Services Division to maintain and enhance financial oversight of the College. Assists in the development of the College's annual budget, which includes working closely with leadership on projected enrollment, state funding, expenses, and other factors.
Manages reporting requirements, including the Ohio Department of Higher Education and/or other State of Ohio entities. Tracks and researches funding sources, as part of the State of Ohio's biennial state budget process, for general operations and specific initiatives.
Implements procedures and manages workflow in a manner that complements the goals and objectives of the CFO. Develops and reviews policies and procedures as needed and makes recommendations for revisions as appropriate; directs and supervises staff in revising and updating standards.
Financial Stewardship
Maintains and applies a broad understanding of financial management principles to ensure decisions are fiscally sound and responsible; identifies cost effective approaches; demonstrates broad understanding of financial management principles to direct organizational actions. Assists in developing departmental best practices based on best practices in the public sector.
In the absence of the CFO, assumes the leadership of the Business Services Division to maintain financial oversight of the College. Collaborates with senior leaders to ensure proper stewardship of funding and resources. Establishes and maintains a standard of excellent service to students, internal stakeholders, and external partners.
Provides long-range revenue estimates, financial forecasting, and scenario planning for academic units to prepare for major strategic priorities, such as student success initiatives, new programs, private partnerships and emerging technologies.
Works with the CFO in the administration of the College's outstanding debt and the issuance of future debt, including preparation of the Official Statement and presentation to rating agencies.
Communication & Strategic Partnerships
Shares financial information, including forecasts, modeling, and budget scenarios, to reflect and inform decision-making. Creates and shares financial information through written, verbal and hybrid formats to clearly explain details and scenarios, whether the intended audience is technically adept or not.
Maintains and develops strategic external partnerships and may represent the College with outside agencies including Ohio Department of Higher Education, state and city government entities, and regulatory agencies.
Participates in Board of Trustees meetings and Cabinet retreats.

Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, fiscal management, or accounting.*
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible budget/fiscal management experience.*
*An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.
State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of: advanced accounting systems and financial reporting; organizational leadership; project development; budget planning and management; ethical standards.
Skilled in: managing multiple competing priorities and constituencies simultaneously; project management; strong and effective communication, including verbal, written, and active listening; professional judgement; problem-solving; decision making; analytical processes; public speaking; time management; attention to detail.
Ability to: nurture strong partnerships internally and externally; align budgets to meet required financial reporting standards and to analyze and develop internal control concepts; perform cost/benefit analysis; analyze and evaluate accounting systems; review, analyze, and evaluate financial/operational data; and manage multiple priorities simultaneously; collaborate with fellow team members; hold self-accountability.
