Job Description
We have an exciting new opportunity within our Grocery Department in our up and coming store located in Sayville, NY! This FT Grocery Specialist will be responsible for monitoring the Grocery Department, working in tandem with the Grocery Management team to ensure that it is running efficiently and meeting customer expectations.
The Grocery Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the overall performance and efficiency of the grocery department. This position is responsible for managing all specialty vendors, ensuring optimal inventory levels, and maintaining high merchandising standards. By handling vendor relations and ordering for specialty items, the Grocery Specialist allows the Grocery Manager to focus on broader departmental concerns, including operational issues, team development, and strategic merchandising.
Core Functions
Vendor Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all specialty grocery vendors.
- Coordinate vendor schedules, deliveries, and promotional activities.
- Monitor vendor compliance with company standards and resolve issues as they arise.
- Negotiate pricing, promotional terms, and product availability when appropriate.
Inventory & Ordering
- Accurately order specialty grocery products based on sales trends, promotional plans, and seasonal needs.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels and reduce out-of-stocks and overstocking.
- Monitor product rotation and freshness standards.
- Communicate with receiving and stock teams to ensure seamless execution of orders.
Operational Support
- Work closely with the Grocery Manager to identify and resolve department inefficiencies.
- Provide feedback and insights based on vendor and product performance.
- Help execute merchandising plans and ensure planograms are followed for specialty items
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with department leads and store leadership to execute promotions and seasonal initiatives
- Share insights with the Grocery Manager to support data-driven decision-making
- Attend department meetings and contribute to team discussions with vendor updates and sales performance
Qualifications
- HS Diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of grocery or specialty retail experience, with a focus on vendor relations or ordering preferred
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in inventory systems and basic Microsoft Office tools
- Must be able to read, speak and communicate in the English language
- A self-starter with high attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving

Working Conditions
- Most of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. There may be a need to frequently position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping.
- May require lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance.
- Usually in a comfortable indoor environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. There could be exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and/or coolers.
- There may be occasional exposure to cleaning agents, sharp objects/industrial equipment necessary to perform job duties and functions.
