Job Summary / Overview:
The Quality Improvement Specialist is responsible for conducting activities that support institutional compliance and accreditation of the animal care and use program (ACUP) for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). This position educates investigators and research staff on IACUC policies and procedures as they apply to their studies including the need for protocol amendments to ensure compliance. Assists the IACUC with post-approval monitoring including semi-annual inspections and protocol review with lab members. Conducts inspections of animal care and use locations, trains research staff and IACUC members on animal use protocols and IACUC policies and coordinates with other internal units supporting the ACUP. Facilitates noncompliance investigations and follow-up actions, and documenting actions as needed/requested. Communicates with PIs on issues and provides follow-up. Helps establish and maintain standard operating procedures for Investigator core services.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 2 years of relevant experience with lab animal use in an academic / institutional setting; experience developing and preparing animal protocols; familiarity with applicable regulations and guidelines; computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office applications.
Desired Education and Experience:
Minimum 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred. Experience with and knowledge of IACUC processes and requirements; knowledge of quality improvement principles; AALAS, CMAR, or CPIA certification.

Additional Information:The targeted hiring hourly pay range is $26.78-$34.95. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's education and relevant work experience.
