Summary/Objective

The Columbus Area (SMC) Manager is directly responsible for planning, directing, or coordinating the work activities and resources necessary for manufacturing products in accordance with Safety People, Quality, Delivery and Cost.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the performance of the specific area operations team consisting of supervisors, process technicians, purchasing, logistics coordinators, maintenance and tooling staff, and others to plan.
  • Assist in developing the strategic and operational plan, including the development and completion of strategic initiatives, capital programs, and other analyses.
  • Supervise employees on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts. Audit and troubleshoot work activities of processing production workers to verify conformance of activities to quality assurance standard
  • Responsible for orientation of new employees and ongoing training of current employees.
  • Ensure that direct reports and operations staff have the appropriate training, work instructions, and tools to do their jobs successfully
  • Evaluate the performance of direct reports
  • Determine manufacturing priorities and maintain production Schedule
  • Determine manning needs as determined by production Schedule through SIOP review
  • Schedule and provide manning for tool/mold changes according to prioritized production schedule
  • Ensure the manufacture of products within safety, people, quality, delivery and cost goals
  • Liaison between team members and rest of organization
  • Identify opportunities that may improve the productivity and efficiency (scrap reduction) of the various work processes by working with technical staff to implement improvements
  • Evaluate processes and equipment to ensure proper set-up and functionality of the equipment.
  • Ensure timely completion of corrective action plans
  • All other job-related duties as assigned and directed by the manager

Required Skills and Experience

  • Hands-on approach to leadership, team building, and coaching
  • `At least two years of leadership of represented hourly employees or equivalent
  • Track record of successfully implementing and sustaining continuous quality improvement
  • Expertise with Lean Manufacturing, Process Controls, and Quality Systems, specifically IATF16949
  • Knowledge of quality tools, including Root Cause Analysis, Red X, 6 Sigma, 8D, etc.
  • Demonstrated manufacturing engineering experience and strong engineering acumen
  • High level of mechanical aptitude
  • Experience with supporting the launch of new customer programs
  • Demonstrable track record of outstanding safety programs and results
  • Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making ability
  • Experience working effectively with OEM's key personnel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High energy level and strong work ethic
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP systems
  • Solid understanding of EHS concepts and regulatory agencies' requirements including adherence to ISO14001 Environmental Standards

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages production leaders of the specific department operations and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees.

Work Environment

This job operates in a production manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard production equipment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position regularly requires long hours and weekend work.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  • BS in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations or Business (Engineering preferred) and at least 5 years of experience working in a field that develops the competencies and duties listed within this document.

Or

  • Minimum of 10 year's experience working in a field that develops the competencies and duties listed within this document.

Preferred Education, Qualifications, and Experience

Knowledge of Sheet Molding Compound ("SMC") and Compression Molding

A minimum of 2 years' experience with molding equipment and processes

Demonstrated success turning around underperforming work units

Required Competencies
