About the Role

As a Chief Veterinary Medical Officer (Medical Director), you will take on a high-impact leadership role, guiding the veterinary team while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and hospital operations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Working on the floor 3-4 days per week, balancing leadership duties with clinical practice.
  • Managing and mentoring a team of specialists and emergency veterinarians.
  • Developing and upholding hospital-wide medical protocols to ensure excellence in patient care.
  • Partnering with hospital leadership to create strategic growth plans and ensure financial success.
  • Leading team meetings, performance reviews, and staff development initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with veterinary regulations and industry best practices.
  • Fostering a collaborative, team-driven hospital culture that prioritizes innovation and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree or equivalent.
  • Must be board-eligible or board-certified.
  • Active Tennessee veterinary license (or eligibility to obtain one – licensure transfer fees covered).
  • 5+ years of Emergency Veterinary Medicine experience preferred.
  • Previous Medical Director or leadership experience required.
  • Federal DEA license or eligibility to obtain upon hire.
  • Proficiency in internal medicine, diagnostics, surgery, and emergency care.
  • Proven ability to build and lead successful veterinary teams.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, communication, and leadership skills.
