Job Title: Equipment Operator 3 Department: Administration and Planning | FOD Operations Sustainability

Job Description: This position is responsible for the collection of solid waste and recyclables on campus using various equipment, including trucks, tractors, backhoes, and more. Key duties include:

  • Operating front and rear-loader trash trucks, skid steers, and dump trucks to remove solid waste, recyclables, litter, and bulk trash.
  • Loading open-top boxes with skid steers.
  • Placing front-load dumpsters at various campus sites.
  • Training other employees on the operation of rear-loader and front-loader trucks and safety procedures.
  • Assisting with assembling front-load trash dumpsters.
  • Potentially serving as a team leader or short-term backup supervisor.
  • Supervising students or temporary workers.
  • Placing and removing containers for special events.
  • Serving as a liaison with customers.
  • Consulting with the manager regarding daily trash or recycling routes for maximum efficiency.
  • Completing route sheets.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

The position works from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM, Sunday through Thursday. Shifts, hours, days, and locations are subject to change based on operational needs in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. Overtime may be required, and the position is subject to 24-hour emergency call. Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Education : Completion of 7th grade.
  • License : Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License.
  • Drug Testing/Physical : Must pass federally required pre-employment drug testing and physical exam.

Required Experience : At least six months of experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment is required. Experience in collecting refuse and operating refuse removal equipment is strongly desired.

  • Understanding of safety practices.
  • Skilled in operating various types of motorized equipment, such as trucks, front and rear-loader trash trucks, forklifts, pallet trucks, etc.
  • Ability to carry out simple instructions.
  • Ability to count and read warning signs.
  • Ability to complete routine forms and reports.
  • Ability to routinely lift 25-75 pounds
Additional Information:

The targeted salary range for this position is $23.30-$29.13 per hour.

There is a shift differential of an additional $1.50 per hour.
