What happens if a client doesn’t approve of my freelance work?

An employer can mark a milestone as incomplete or dispute your decision to mark your milestone complete.

When this happens, the employer will first need to provide a reason for disputing the claim (e.g., you only worked five instead of the 10 agreed-upon hours). No payments will be made when a milestone is being disputed.

You’ll be notified of the employer’s dispute and will have 72 hours to resolve the issue with the employer.

Once a mutual decision is reached, you and the employer must select the appropriate outcome – “Milestone is Complete” or “Milestone is Incomplete” on your Agreements tab.

If the milestone is completed, your payment will go through as originally intended.

If the employer marks a milestone as incomplete, you will have the opportunity to dispute the status (if you mark it complete again, the status will go back to the employer to mark it incomplete or approve it). If you opt to dispute, you and the employer will enter the dispute resolution process.

If a mutual decision is not reached in the dispute process or there is no response from either party, iHire’s team will act as a mediator.

We’ll review your agreement, scope, and deliverables, and facilitate the outcome. If the agreement is not reached with our assistance, we will refer you and the employer to a third party. Learn more about this process in our terms and conditions.
