The full story:

Background

Aquatech Management of Long Island, Inc., is a premier provider of commercial swimming pool management and lifeguard services across Long Island and Queens, New York. Founded in 1989, Aquatech offers certified lifeguard staffing, CPR training, and lifeguard training programs, as well as comprehensive services including pool opening and closing, equipment installation and repair, leak detection, chemical monitoring, and health regulation compliance. With a culture rooted in professionalism, safety, and teamwork, Aquatech is committed to maintaining the highest standards in pool management, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Challenges

In mid-April every year, Aquatech starts hiring summer lifeguards for over 50 facilities across Long Island. It’s a fast-paced recruiting effort and timing is everything. Aquatech must post job ads so that they attract the right candidates, including students who tend to search for jobs on the weekends and at the end of the school year.

Aquatech had primarily used Indeed to fill their lifeguard roles, but was frustrated by the cost to post an ad and the platform’s inflexibility. Aquatech began to explore alternatives to general job boards that would allow it to reach ideal candidates at the right time.

Solutions

Aquatech decided to try iHire, an industry-specific employment platform with 57 talent communities, including iHireFitnessAndRec comprising a unique talent pool of nearly 100,000 job seekers. To advertise its lifeguard jobs, Aquatech chose iHire’s Job Slots, flexible, interchangeable postings that can be swapped in and out as staffing needs change.

With a flat-fee subscription, Aquatech could advertise up to five jobs at a time, continuously running the ads without worrying about closing them when it reached a certain allocated budget. When the Aquatech team needed to fill another position for a different facility, they could close the ad, change the geo-targeting, and update any necessary copy elements without having to recreate the entire ad.

“It was really easy to just switch the location, targeting, and requirements,” said Thomas DeVito, Office Manager/Scheduler, Aquatech. “Having five Job Slots was great because we could post throughout Long Island and didn’t have to pinpoint a certain location.”

With Job Slots, postings are automatically refreshed every 15 days to keep them at the top of search results and shared with matching candidates via branded job alert emails and on their iHire dashboards. Jobs are also published on Aquatech’s free company profile, which showcases what it’s like to work for Aquatech to entice job seekers and grow its employer brand.

Additionally, Aquatech enjoyed using iHire’s candidate messaging tools to communicate with applicants and appreciated iHire’s AI-powered Job Ad Builder. The tool helped refine job postings, making them more concise and appealing to job seekers who want quick, digestible information. Along the way, Aquatech’s dedicated iHire Hiring Success Strategist offered valuable tips and tricks to ensure the ads included the right keywords and industry-specific language to be found by the right people.

Results

In the spring and summer of 2025, Aquatech hired over 200 lifeguards – double the amount it typically hires. And, as many as 100 of them came directly from iHire.

The five Job Slots enabled Aquatech to successfully target specific areas across Long Island as staffing needs shifted, allowing them to post for multiple facilities simultaneously. This saved their recruiters time, cost, and resources in filling roles. Aquatech also estimates that it received more candidates – most of whom were qualified – from iHire than it had been finding on general job boards.

“iHire helped us hire almost double the amount of lifeguards we normally do,” said DeVito. “Working with them has been fantastic. Everyone has been responsive, and we couldn’t be more pleased.”

Aquatech is already planning to use iHire to fill its lifeguard positions in 2026 and is looking to leverage iHire’s applicant tracking system (ATS) and customizable workflows to improve how it tracks and manages candidates.

“We’re definitely going to use iHire next season – it’s a no-brainer at this point,” DeVito concluded.
