Construction Engineer
Location: Cleveland Area
A well-established heavy civil contractor in the Cleveland area is seeking a Construction Engineer to support in-house project design, temporary works engineering, and field implementation. This role works closely with the Construction Design Engineer (CDE) to develop working drawings, engineering plans, and construction support documents for a variety of complex civil and structural projects.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the design and development of hoisting/lifting plans, spreader beam layouts, formwork systems, temporary structures, posted formwork (including slab bridges), earth support systems, and demolition plans.
• Assist in developing pumping and dewatering plans, trench box specifications, and other engineering solutions as assigned.
• Partner with estimating during bid phases to prepare conceptual designs aligned with project criteria.
• Support the safety department with engineering-specific needs and assist warehouse personnel in maintaining accurate inventories of sheeting, shoring, lumber, forms, and hardware.
• Maintain design records for all lifting beams and lifting devices; issue purchase orders for engineering-related materials.
• Conduct routine site visits to ensure field conformance with provided designs and collaborate with carpenters and superintendents to create practical, field-friendly solutions.
• Archive project photos, maintain organized engineering files, assist in invoice coding, and participate in internal planning meetings.
• Engage in task force groups, professional organizations (ACI, ASCE, OCA), and winter training programs.
• Work proactively toward obtaining Professional Engineer licensure.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Registered Professional Engineer OR Graduate Engineer from an ABET-accredited program working toward EI certification.
• Previous experience as a Project Engineer; heavy civil construction experience preferred.

• Ability to learn and apply engineering design software.
