Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of technical and administrative duties in support of the City's Human Resources programs and services including recruitment and selection, benefits administration, workers' compensation, employee training, and personnel records management. The Human Resources Specialist provides exceptional customer service to employees and the public, ensuring that every interaction reflects the City's values of professionalism, integrity, and teamwork.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Human Resources Specialist is a paraprofessional class in the Human Resources series. Incumbents perform a wide range of technical and administrative support functions requiring a thorough knowledge of human resources procedures and systems. This classification is distinguished from the Human Resources Analyst by the latter's responsibility for performing professional-level analytical duties requiring independent judgment and policy interpretation.

Education and/or Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for a Human Resources Specialist. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess:
Two years of increasingly responsible clerical or administrative experience in a human resources or related office setting; and completion of coursework or training in public or business administration, human resources, or a closely related field. An associate's degree is desirable.
License/Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license.
