Through this process students realize that they must compete on unique perspective, experience, education, experience and ability; not simply a college degree.
Beginning by asking what has to happen 18 months from now for the student to feel good about having a relationship with the program allows both professor and student to work backwards from a defined set of expectations and create systems that hold each accountable.
Understanding that we have to be better tomorrow than we are today allows each student to create separation from others in knowledge, skill, desire, confidence, likability, networks and their “free prize inside.”
Finally burrowing from Thoreau collectively we define success as advancing confidently in the direction of our own dream and to endeavor to live a life that only we can imagine. By doing this each student engages a set of systematic and ongoing behaviors that allows them to do something tomorrow that they simply can't do today.
