Position Summary:

Schafer Industries is currently seeking a Machinist I for its Schafer Driveline operation in Blacklick, Ohio. This role is on a second shift schedule and works a 4x10 pattern: Monday Thursday 3:00pm to 1:30am. In addition to a shift differential paid for hours worked, we are offering a signing bonus. The successful candidate must have the ability to operate all machines (cells) under supervision of the Production Team Lead or the Manufacturing Engineer.

Job Summary:

Essential Functions:

  • Performs machine programming changes, set up, tooling changes
  • Ability to operate Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)
  • Performs advanced inspection operations to detect defective material or questionable conditions and reports to lead or supervision, including thorough knowledge of the appropriate use of the inspection equipment and gages.
  • Ability to operate all vertical mills, horizontal mills, lathes (CNC and manual)
  • Ability to perform minor program editing as necessary (CNC)
  • Responsible for the quality of products produced
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Troubleshoots machines for errors and failure
  • Ability to operate a forklift with certification

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • High school diploma or GED and certification in Machine Trades Program plus four or more years experience as Machine Operator
  • Adhere to Safety & Environmental policies
  • Ability to understand written work procedures and instructions
  • Ability to perform advanced inspection
  • Advanced math skills
  • Understanding of part drawings, blueprints, symbols and geometric tolerances
  • Ability to set up jobs utilizing CNC Lathe or Mill (CNC program and fixture provided)
  • Ability to make offset adjustments (Fixture, PCD, Programmable, Etc.)
  • Ability to make a part to blueprint specs (utilizing the manual Mill and Lathe)

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment and job site can be loud.

No travel is expected for this position.
