About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to join our dedicated faculty. This role is ideal for an educator who is committed to high academic expectations, values the importance of student voice, and believes in purposeful, standards-aligned instruction.
Youll be responsible for teaching ELA across grades 68, with a focus on literature, writing, grammar, and vocabulary, and helping students grow as confident, skilled readers and writers.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver engaging, standards-based lessons aligned to Common Core ELA standards for grades 68.
Teach across all domains of ELA: literature, informational texts, vocabulary, grammar, and writing (narrative, argument, informative, and research).
Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and provide targeted small-group support.
Integrate writing and discussion into daily instruction to build critical thinking and communication skills.
Use technology and real-world applications to enhance student engagement and learning.
Monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction as needed.
Provide timely, constructive feedback to guide student growth.
Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and support schoolwide goals.
Communicate regularly with families about student progress and learning targets.
Create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
Participate in ongoing professional development aligned with SHPSs mission and educational model.
What We Are Looking For
Bachelors degree required, ideally in English, Education, or a related field.
Experience teaching middle school ELA preferred, especially in a private or independent school setting.
Strong knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for ELA.
Ability to design and implement instruction that integrates reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary.
Skill in using assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth.
Effective classroom management that fosters respect, engagement, and accountability.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Commitment to continuous learning and reflective teaching practice.
